Learning the Hard Way helps us grow - Right?
Letting them learn the hard way is hard on everyone but a necessity in life.
Growing up can be such a pain in the butt. It's hard as a parent to sit back and watch your kids learn a lesson the hard way, but it is how they learn about life and the real world and hopefully take something out of it that will help them in the future, make them grow and be a better person.
It seems like all my children are in the process right now of learning various aspects of lessons of life the hard way.
Some little lessons, some costly to their pockets, some big lessons.
We try to not "tell them" what to do, but discuss whatever the issue is objectively all the while interjecting "our opinion" as just that in the hopes that they will look at that opinion as a reason to maybe not proceed down the path they are choosing. Of course even our opinions are not always right (we were wrong once...) and the choices they make are their own.
At times I want to yell and scream at them because they are acting "impulsively" and not listening to their inner common sense (or anyone else) until it's too late and the damage is done. And it can be painful too watch and not find a way to stop them, but let them learn the hard way....
It's going to help them grow right?!?!?!?!?!?
Okay~ deeeeep siiiiiggghhhhhh........~I'm ready for "Calgon take me away!!!!!" as another lesson in life is learned.....

Ahhh.. Aren't life lessons great? We suffer right along side them!
Julie - Yes we suuuuurre dooo! Then when its all said and done we look back and hopefully smile about it and know it worked out! Thanks for coming by!
Throughout their growth, they'll remember your support and love the most. Without these lessons, they'll not grow!
You care a ton, it's evident. Keep on caring!
Ashley - Yes that is true- but man my hair is grey enough!
I am still learning lessons as is my Mom. I think we all still do. Now my kids are. It is hard to watch but even harder for them if you spare them every time. I still want to though. Hugs seem to help us both get through it-Dinah Lee
Dinah - Oh we all are that is for sure! Its hard to not jump into 'disciplinary mode" though when they are adults. Results are much better if you talk with and to them instead of at them..... Thanks for stopping in !
Val - Late to the party as usual. But, I was just thinking about this today as I was detailing my own car to save $89 big dinerro. We have choices to make in life. I was thinking about how great my parents were in letting me make my own decisions and then trustiing me. They never "swooped in" to save me. I didn't need saving most of the time. But, I never did that for my child, either. I trusted him to make the right decisions.
There was only one time when I came home with a police officer which mortified me along with my parents. Thank god, he was a cousin! It could have been much worse! And, did I learn a lesson!?!? Thankfully, my son was even smarter than me!
Suzanne - You are never too late like they say!!! We sure do have choices - I've "swooped" maybe a couple of times but the results were better learned when I don't!! It's soooo hard not to at times and let them learn by their mistakes or successes! Sooo you were brought home by the cops huh?? ...................... I bet you were mortified - Hey we all have some skeletons out there! LoL.... Thanks for stopping in !
