What do you mean I can't do that? Says who? Why Not? Anytime someone says those words to me it actually makes me work harder to find a way TO DO IT! I don't let those words stop me!
And so it begins... I love this time of year and throughout summer and fall because it is when I get to spread my wings even more and enjoy a freedom as well as surprise people.
People who do not know me or have just met me, are surprised when they find out that I ride a motorcycle. Their reactions are all usually the same - an ear splitting grin and envy as they look at my bike and give me a high five for going for it. A lot of questions they will generally ask..
Around this time of year, my husband and I pull our motorcycles out and ride whenever we can- weather permitting. I used to be "shy" and would not ride my motorcycle while I was working; some would question how I was going to be able to "do" real estate and take care of business while on my motorcycle.
I decided the heck with that. I want to ride. Don't tell me I can't do that.... So I do.
It's actually quite simple and cost effective and the best part - an experience that you will not find anywhere else.
My husband bought me a bag for my luggage rack so I can carry my computer, fliers, purse, whatever I can fit in there! (he states continually he's created a monster).... And off I go.
I usually ride my motorcycle when I am on a day of networking, checking on my homes for sale, filling flyer boxes and other little tasks. And what a way to network and multitask!
I can guarantee you that at least ONE person will stop and have a conversation with me in regards to my motorcycle and/or the fact that I am a woman rider (not to say they won't talk to a man either cuz they will!). What a perfect way to open the door to what I do for a living.
And when I am on my motorcycle, they see and feel my passion for it and eventually our conversation always turns to the economy which in turns turns to - YEP - real estate. And if it doesn't, they will always ask me where I am headed. My grin becomes huge again, as I start down the road of my other passion in life.
I explain to them how I help people achieve their dreams and goals in life. From there it goes and I can take it in any direction I would like....
And here's the other amazing thing about all of this: They ALWAYS remember who I am.
Don't ever let anyone tell you "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!"
So what surprises do you have up your sleeve?

Terry - Thank you - Don't tell me can't cuz I'll try and find a way to CAN! Thanks for stopping by!
I love your picture on you blog of the mountains and the water - it's very beautiful!! I can just see you riding your motorcycle in such nice scenery.
You go girl....and go safely on your rides. Watch out for those four wheelers. My husband is seriously thinking about riding again.
Norma - Thank you... It is an absolutely gorgeous area to ride here. Many many things to see and places to go! Thanks for stopping by!
Jeanette - My husband is constantly telling me how he has created a monster - see he told me "I can't" get my motorcycle license - well he didn't say can't - he just didn't think I would! And well here I am! We love riding together- oh yes those four wheelers don't always see us or pay attention. Always on the alert! I think your husband just "do it!"
I read were you wrote about riding a motorcycle and I lost what the whole blog was about, LOL. What kind of bike do you ride? We need to have more women riders out there like you. Great for the environment and great for the cool factor
Winston - I ride a 2003 Dyna Low Rider (harley) - My husband rides a Harley Ultra Classic - thank you Winston - I LOVE riding my harley - talk about a stress reliever! Puts a smile on my face instantly!
Great post Valerie. I myself am an avid biker, expect I ride the kind with pedals. I have tried to figure out ways to ride my bike while working but can't seem to find a way around the spandex, clip in pedals, and perspiration that often comes with cycling.
My grandad once told me, " In life, never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, not even me " . So, I told this to my Mom when she told me I couldn't go to Jimmy's house to stay the night. " Grandad told me not to let anyone tell me I cannot do something, not even you." Well, Mom taught me right quick the meaning of what my Grandad said! OUCH!!!!!!
Christine - You shouldn't trade up to a motorcycle because you will ALWAYS want to ride -lol! Your bike is healthier, but at least my motorcycle keeps my mind healthy! Thanks for stopping by!
Broker Doug - I love your story! Oh believe me I have a had a few of "ouches" from mom before! Maybe that's why I am MORE defiant now! Thanks for stopping in !
Valerie, you have some lovely territory to ride out there, have fun with the wind in your wings!
Caren - There really is beautiful country here and some great riding roads and this is the best way to see it! See my husband is not a touristy kind of guy so this is the perfect excuse to go see all the places that I want to visit with him willing to go! Thanks for stopping by!
We got a biker babe here! And you are right... I won't forget. Thanks for checking in on my post to allow me to check out yours. You've got a great writing style, and I'll be back!
Sally - eheh -it is so much fun! THank yo so much for your comments - I really appreciate it... I thoroughly enjoy your writing. Thanks for stoppingin !
I would love to see you on that bike! Do you carry a backpack with your company logo on the back? Where do you put those flyers? a side carriage or something. I'm way to clumsy, or I'd come ride with you and have fun.
Greg - Maybe someday I'll swing by your office on it.... No company logo geesh Greg got a Biker image to keep too you know! No sidecar.. It is a lot of fun and clumsy does NOT fit well with riding! Thanks for stopping in!
You go. It took me over 30 years to finally get my license and I now could kick myslef that I have waited so long
Hey, Val, I'm sending this on to my broker who rides a bike. He's always bragging about the low-cost alternative, and how people remember him, too. He has a Gold Wing. One of my first experiences with him was riding behind as a passenger. Yikes.....He is a great driver and used to race Vettes so I always trust him. But, it is different. I applaud you...I knew I liked you a long time ago, but this puts new perspective on the whole thing. What a WOMAN!!!!
Val, Suzanne sent this on to me. Way to go! It's a great way to meet clients. And, they do remember you! I am always completely professional. But, they get an impression! And, I think quite a few of them are envious!!!
Settles Team- I was chicken at first I admit it. Husband was a good supporter and well here I am - I can't believe how much of a stress reliever it is and how much I enjoy it. I wish too that I had done it earlier!
Suzanne - yep - low cost and wow what a kick in the butt too boot! I smile everytime I think about ME riding my bike. Love it love it love it. I am a very conservative person and this was a HUGE thing for me! But the smile on my face, the minute I start her up - and the way the stress rolls off is unbelievable and then the feeling of riding - can't even begin to describe it! Thanks for stopping by Suzanne!
Don - It really is a great way to meet clients and oh yeah they may forget my name- but there's only one woman real estate agent in my area that rides her own bike... yes I thnk they are envious... I know I am envious on days I can't ride and I see others out there! Great way to network! Can't wait for good weather to be out there more! Thanks for stopping in Don!
